Beyond Favour: Daniel's Journey of Obedience

Daniel 1: 8-21

”Now God made Daniel to find favor, compassion, and loving-kindness with the chief of the eunuchs.“

‭‭Daniel‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Daniel was a slave taken to the land of Babylon but despite the fact that he was not in his homeland, he determined in his heart that he would not defile himself. Because of this, he found favor with the chief of the eunuchs. He was blessed with wisdom, knowledge, understanding and a special ability to interpret dreams and visions. He not only found favor with the eunuch but found favor with the king and was called into royal service. He was ten times wiser than all the magicians/wisemen in the land. He served four kings, from the time of King Nebuchadnezzar to the time of King Cyrus.

We tend to note that Daniel found favor with the chief of the eunuchs but we do not pay attention to the fact that he first determined not to defile himself. So many of us want to have an “ATM” relationship with God - just go to Him to make withdrawals to meet our needs without a commitment. The Bible says that if we are willing and obedient, we would eat the fruit of the land (Isaiah 1:19). God desires to show us favor. He loves us so much. More than giving us things, God wants us to have a genuine relationship with Him. He wants us to desire to do His will and do His purpose. If we seek first God’s kingdom, then every other thing would be added to us. Nothing is difficult for God, when we find that things are not working out like He has promised, we need to check our own end of the relationship. God is faithful and constant. Never wavering. God does not show favorites, like He showed Daniel favor, He also wants to show us favor. Would you let Him today?

Practice points:

  1. Spend a few minutes today and reflect on your relationship with God, where have you let the little things others do that are not quite of God creep into your life.

  2. Have you put obedience to God and following His will first in your life? Even when it’s not totally convenient?

  3. Determine in your heart that you will live completely for God, no matter the cost. Crucifying the flesh

Lord Jesus, help me to live a life that is sold out to you. I have no power to do it on my own. My desire is to live a life that is worthy of you. I surrender myself to you.
