The Path To Success

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

A few months ago, I drove over a hard object on the road. I was driving in the night with limited visibility and by the time I saw it, it was too late to stop. There was a car in the lane beside me that made it difficult for me to swerve to avoid this object. Subsequently, I had an alert on my dashboard that said “Presafe function limited”. I ignored it which is something that wasn’t like me. I drove my car that way for two months. Subsequently, two other error notices arising from that started flashing intermittently on my dashboard. Last week, while I was headed to work, the car stopped! Nothing would work; every system was off. I eventually found out that the collision assist system was faulty and it shut down the car to protect it. Changing it, solved everything. I got to this point because I had ignored the alerts from measures that had been put in place by the manufacturers and decided to do it my own way.

This is what many of us do as Christians. God made us and made the whole universe. He is the creator and everything we see gets its sustenance from Him. He didn’t just create us and drop us in the world, He loves us too much to do that. He gave us His word which is a love letter to us and a guide. His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). From the passages above, we learn the way to success and prosperity. God loves us too much to allow us to waste time by winging it and living by trial and error. He states clearly that we should meditate on His words day and night. Not just a reading of the word or a studying of the word. We are to think deeply on the word, enjoy spending time with the word and then obey all that it says and only then will we have good success and prosperity.

Do you meditate on God’s word? Do you just highlight the promises you like and ignore the part that comes before the promise? The part you are to play to trigger that promise. We all like to quote “all things work together for good” but what the Bible actually says is that “God causes all things to work together for good to those that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28) and the way to show that we love God is to obey His commandments (John 14:15). It comes down to this, that the way to success is to meditate on God’s word continually and to do EVERYTHING written in it. The Holy Spirit will give us the grace to do this if we ask Him and surrender to Him.

PRACTICE POINTS

  • Develop a real Bible reading plan and make out time each day to study the word of God and meditate on it.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Father to you in the word you are reading and give you the grace to obey.

PRAYER

Thank you Lord Jesus that is your will that I prosper, succeed and be in health. Thank you for showing me the way to achieve that. Please Holy Spirit, grant me the grace to obey the commands of the Father.
